the paleozoic era
PALEOZOIC ERA
The Paleozoic era was known as the age of invertebrates and it paleozoic means ancient life. It began 542 MYA and ended 251 MYA. In the Cambrian period the climate was warm worldwide. During the Ordovician period there was a ice age that formed many glaciers. After the ice age the glaciers melt and the sea levels rise. The first supercontinent was called Pannotia. During the Paleozoic era the continent Pannotia splits into smaller continents. At the end of the Paleozoic the continents form the supercontinent Pangea. During the paleozoic the Appalachian mountains form. Ocean reefs form in shallow tropical waters. The continents move and collide to form huge mountain ranges. During the paleozoic there was a sudden explosion of invertebrates. There was an uprising in fish and other marine life. In the Carboniferous period the foliage plant thrived. At the end of the era low carbon dioxide levels causes severe ice ages. Pangea causes temperature changes. 96% of all marine life and 70% of all land animals go extinct.
