The mesozoic era
MESOZOIC ERA
The Mesozoic era started 252 MYA and ended 66 MYA, the nickname is age of reptiles and means middle life. The climate was much warmer than today and there were no polar ice caps. In the Triassic period there were many different temperature swings. In the Jurassic period sea levels rise causing more stable and wetter climates. In Cretaceous period carbon dioxide levels rise causing temperatures to rise up to 18 degrees. During the Mesozoic the breakup of Pangea happened and it split into seven continents. Pangea split into Gondwana and Laurasia. Oceans rise due to magma on the ocean floor. Pangea breaks up and the Atlantic ocean grows. Sea levels change throughout the Mesozoic. The Iguanodon and other massive lizards dominated the land. The tyrannosaurus rex and triceratops also dominate. Coniferous plants plants with cones and needle like leaves grew all over the land. The period ended with a mass extinction that almost everyone knows about, when a meteoroid hit earth and wiped out the dinosaurs.
